MUSCAT : The society said the Delta Aquariids is one of the most prominent summer meteor showers, known for its fast-moving meteors and bright streaks that appear across the night sky each year between July 12 and August 23.

The meteor shower is produced by debris from Comet 96P/Machholz and is expected to offer an ideal rate of around 15 to 20 meteors per hour under suitable viewing conditions. The meteors travel at a speed of approximately 41 kilometres per second, with their radiant point located near the constellation Aquarius.

The society noted that the peak viewing period will coincide with a full moon, with illumination reaching approximately 99.8 percent, which may make some of the fainter meteors difficult to observe.

Astronomy enthusiasts are advised to watch the meteor shower after midnight from dark locations away from city lights to improve visibility.
