MUSCAT – According to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, active postpaid mobile subscriptions increased by 5 percent to reach 1,298,229 subscriptions, while prepaid subscriptions declined by 1 percent to 5,240,248 subscriptions.
Subscriptions for Internet of Things (machine-to-machine) services also recorded growth, rising by 8 percent to reach 1,683,560 subscriptions by the end of April 2026.
In the internet services sector, the number of active mobile broadband subscriptions rose to 5,428,965, while active fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 1 percent to reach 590,252 subscriptions.

Fiber optic subscriptions for homes and facilities grew by 7 percent to 361,078 subscriptions. Meanwhile, fixed 5G subscriptions declined slightly by 2 percent to 210,952 subscriptions, while satellite internet subscriptions surged by 198 percent to reach 1,517 subscriptions.
Other technologies recorded declines, with fixed 4G subscriptions falling by 68 percent to 6,672 subscriptions, and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) subscriptions dropping by 26 percent to 9,304 subscriptions.
Subscriptions under other categories, including internet via power lines, Ethernet, and leased internet lines, decreased by 7 percent to 729 subscriptions by the end of April 2026 compared to the same period last year.
