MUSCAT – The three-hour surgery was performed after the injured patient was admitted to the emergency department of Al Suwaiq Hospital following a road accident. Medical assessments and diagnostic imaging, including CT and MRI scans, revealed multiple fractures in the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae at four levels, accompanied by severe pressure on the spinal canal nerves, resulting in loss of movement in the lower limbs.

The surgical intervention involved widening the spinal canal and stabilizing the multi-level vertebral fractures using medical screws to relieve pressure on the spinal nerves and restore spinal stability.

The procedure was completed successfully, and the patient has shown positive signs of improvement. He is currently receiving medical follow-up and rehabilitation under the supervision of the treatment team.

The achievement marks an important milestone in developing specialised healthcare services at Al Suwaiq Hospital and reflects the integration between health institutions in the Sultanate of Oman.

It also supports efforts to localise advanced medical services and strengthen the capacity of referral and local hospitals to provide high-quality healthcare for citizens and residents.
