Washington: The Olympic 100m champion and four-time world 200m champion clocked an impressive 14.67 seconds, lowering the previous world record of 14.92 seconds set earlier this year by Jamaican sprinter Keishan Thompson. Lyles’ remarkable run shaved a quarter of a second off the existing mark.
Speaking after the race, the 28-year-old expressed his delight at finally achieving the feat. “It’s finally time to break the record,” Lyles said.
He added that the unique nature of the event presents its own challenges. “This feeling is not new to me. It is very difficult to get used to starting a 150-meter race in a progressive system. We practice it in training, but without using the starting platforms,” he explained.
