MUSCAT – The measures aim to support the season’s economic and tourism activities while ensuring a safe and stable work environment in Dhofar Governorate.
Nasser bin Salem Al Hadhrami, Director General of the Directorate General of Labour in Dhofar Governorate, said in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the Ministry is coordinating with various government and private entities to organise seasonal employment opportunities for Omani youth across several sectors and activities linked to the season.
He explained that the initiative aims to enable young Omanis to benefit from available economic opportunities, gain practical experience and participate in seasonal activities.
Al Hadhrami said the Ministry will provide temporary financial support of RO 150 per month to beneficiaries of seasonal employment opportunities throughout the season, as part of efforts to encourage the participation of Omani youth in seasonal economic activities and support their job stability.
He added that the Ministry has introduced a number of facilities for Omani employers and entrepreneurs during the Khareef season, including temporary work permits to employ non-Omani manpower and a service allowing the transfer of temporary expatriate workers between establishments.
These measures aim to help businesses meet increased demand during the season, organise the labour market, reduce violations related to employing unlicensed workers and support activities associated with the tourism period.
As part of its awareness efforts, the Ministry launched the campaign “Together We Work for a Season with an Omani Identity and National Hands” to promote compliance with labour market regulations and strengthen the role of national competencies in seasonal economic activities.
The Ministry stressed the importance of enabling Omani talents to benefit from available job opportunities, adhering to Omanisation requirements, avoiding the employment of expatriate workers in professions designated for Omanis, and complying with regulations governing temporary licences.
It also highlighted the need to avoid renting, transferring or allowing non-citizens to manage or operate temporary licences.
Al Hadhrami said the Directorate General of Labour in Dhofar is implementing awareness field visits targeting business owners, commercial establishments and mobile vendors to provide guidance on rights, responsibilities, occupational safety and health requirements, as well as available services and facilities.
On the human resources development front, the Ministry of Labour is preparing to organise the third edition of the Labour Forum 2026 in Salalah from July 26 to August 13, with participation from government, private and academic institutions.
The forum is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants and will address topics related to the future of the labour market, global challenges, economic transformations, employment trends and social protection.
The event will also review updates to the Labour Law and Social Protection Law, opportunities to support entrepreneurship and innovative projects, and developments in human resources.
Regional and international organisations, including the International Labour Organization, are expected to participate in specialised sessions focusing on the future of work, employment policies and human resources development.
Al Hadhrami concluded that the Labour Forum represents an important platform for exchanging experiences, reviewing best practices and strengthening dialogue among labour market stakeholders, supporting national efforts to build a more efficient and sustainable labour market capable of keeping pace with economic and development changes.
