Indian seafarer dies on tanker at Oman’s Duqm Port; Embassy coordinating repatriation

MUSCAT – An Indian national, identified as Nishanth Uirthanathan, has died due to medical complications while serving aboard the MT Celestial, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of India in Muscat on Saturday.

The embassy said the seafarer’s mortal remains are currently onboard the vessel at Duqm Port and that it has been maintaining continuous contact with the ship management company and other relevant stakeholders.

“The Embassy has been in continuous contact with the ship management company and is coordinating closely with all concerned stakeholders. Necessary arrangements are being made for the early repatriation of the mortal remains to India,” the mission said in a statement posted on X.

The embassy also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased.

“Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” it said.

No further details were immediately available regarding the circumstances surrounding the medical complications or the vessel’s voyage.
