MUSCAT : In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, Oman’s Foreign Minister His Excellency Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi received Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Muscat during what both sides described as the first official visit by a Canadian foreign minister to Oman in over a decade.
The two ministers said the visit reflected the positive trajectory of bilateral ties over the past 50 years and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
During the meeting, Oman and Canada agreed to elevate the level of bilateral partnership and signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations aimed at establishing a regular framework for dialogue between the two countries.

The ministers also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, energy, critical minerals, higher education and tourism, while stressing the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties. According to the joint statement, bilateral trade between Oman and Canada reached 222 million Canadian dollars in 2025, with both sides highlighting significant potential for further economic growth.
Regional developments were also discussed during the talks, with both ministers exchanging views on ongoing conflicts in the region. They stressed the importance of protecting civilian lives, supporting de-escalation efforts and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Canadian foreign minister also expressed appreciation for Oman’s longstanding diplomatic role in promoting regional dialogue and stability over the years.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to international law, including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
