MUSCAT : According to the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the court found the company and its representative guilty of violating provisions of the Consumer Protection Law after they refused to repair, replace, or refund a defective vehicle within the warranty period.
The case originated when the Directorate General of CPA in Dhofar received a complaint from a consumer reporting faults in the vehicle within two weeks of purchase. Despite being notified, the company declined to address the defects or provide compensation.
Following standard procedures, the authority reviewed the complaint and appointed a technical expert, who confirmed multiple issues affecting the vehicle’s overall performance, including malfunctioning safety systems.
The case was subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the Primary Court in Salalah. The court imposed a fine of RO 5,000 for failing to repair the defect, refund the vehicle’s value, or replace it during the warranty period, along with an additional RO 2,000 penalty for not providing the service within a reasonable timeframe.
