MUSCAT – According to a statement from the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the Court of First Instance convicted the establishment of breaching the Consumer Protection Law and imposed financial penalties and ordered civil remedies in favour of the complainant.
The CPA explained that the consumer filed a complaint with its Department in South Al Batinah Governorate after contracting the firm to design and install a household kitchen for RO 1,700, which was paid in full. The customer later reported defects following installation, including swelling of drawers and cabinet doors attributed to the use of non-original materials and exposure to moisture.
Although the company removed the damaged components for repair, the replacement process was delayed for several months, citing unavailability of the required colour. The prolonged delay prompted the consumer to request termination of the contract and a full refund.

Following administrative procedures, the case was referred to the Public Prosecution, which investigated and brought the matter before the court. The court found the defendants failed to deliver the service properly and did not guarantee it in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law.
In its ruling, the court fined each accused RO 300 and ordered them to bear legal costs. It also terminated the contract, mandated a full refund of RO 1,700 to the consumer, and awarded RO 300 in compensation for damages and expenses.
