MUSCAT : Captain Mohammed bin Hubais Beit Jandal, General Coach of Oman’s national hockey teams, has confirmed that the squad is well-prepared ahead of the upcoming qualifiers, which will take place at the Oman Hockey Complex in Al Amerat under the organization of the Oman Hockey Association.

Speaking to the Oman News Agency, Beit Jandal highlighted that the team’s preparation program focused on enhancing physical fitness, technical performance, and team cohesion. The program followed a comprehensive technical plan aimed at developing players across physical, technical, and mental aspects, while also building a clear playing system and competitive training environment.

As part of their preparations, Oman hosted the Pakistani junior national team from February 21 to 27, playing four friendly matches that allowed the coaching staff to test tactical approaches and evaluate players. This was followed by matches against the German youth national team—2025 World Cup champions—from February 28 to March 4. Oman drew the first match and narrowly lost the second 5–3, with the coach noting these games as valuable high-level tests.

The coach stated that the training program has largely achieved its objectives, contributing to improved physical readiness, tactical execution, and international exposure. Players have shown noticeable progress in speed, transitions between defense and attack, passing accuracy, off-the-ball movement, and adherence to tactical roles.

Recent training sessions have focused on strengthening defensive organization, accelerating offensive transitions, improving finishing, and refining set pieces, particularly short corner executions. Beit Jandal also noted a marked improvement in team cohesion, communication, and understanding between defense, midfield, and attack.

The coaching staff has introduced modern tactical approaches, including zonal defense, high pressing, and increased attacking intensity during build-up play, enhancing the team’s overall strategy.

The current squad combines experienced players with emerging young talents, creating a competitive and balanced environment. The presence of seasoned players, the coach noted, brings composure and confidence during high-pressure matches.

Looking ahead, Beit Jandal expects strong competition in the qualifiers, with all participating teams aiming to secure a spot in the Asian Games. He added that the technical team is closely analyzing opponents to prepare effectively.

Hosting the qualifiers in Muscat is seen as a major advantage, with home support expected to boost the players’ morale and performance.
