MUSCAT : The competition features 50 sailors from Oman Sail’s national sailing schools alongside 14 international competitors from the UAE and Sri Lanka, providing local sailors with an opportunity to test their skills against regional and international talent.

Sailors are competing across four classes, Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7. Up to 12 races are scheduled for each class during the championship, with a maximum of three races permitted per class each day.

The championship serves as an important competitive platform for sailors to sharpen their technical and tactical abilities, gain racing experience and prepare for upcoming regional and international events.

It also forms part of Oman Sail’s efforts to strengthen the Sultanate’s position as a regional sailing destination while developing a strong pathway for Omani sailors to progress towards professional-level competition. Oman Sail says the conditions in Ras Al Hadd provide an ideal setting for demanding fleet racing.

The event follows a six-week summer training camp in Ras Al Hadd, during which Omani sailors underwent intensive technical and physical preparation ahead of the championship.

The Oman Sailing Championship is organised in partnership with Oman LNG and the Oman Marine Sports Association. The championship runs from August 14 to 18.
