DUBAI — Tourists and transit passengers stranded in the United Arab Emirates following airport closures will have their accommodation expenses fully covered by the state, authorities have confirmed.
In a circular issued to hotels, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) instructed properties to extend the stay of guests who are unable to depart due to circumstances beyond their control.
“In light of current circumstances and given that some guests have reached their checkout date but are unable to travel for reasons beyond their control, we kindly request extending their stay until they are able to depart,” the circular stated.
“The cost of the extended stay will be covered by DCT Abu Dhabi.”

The update follows an earlier announcement by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which confirmed that the government is covering accommodation and hosting expenses for thousands of passengers affected by flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures across the country.
In a statement carried by Emirates News Agency (WAM), the GCAA said the state is bearing all costs related to lodging, meals, and essential services for affected travelers during the period of operational adjustments.
Authorities estimated that approximately 20,200 passengers have been impacted by flight rescheduling. Temporary accommodation has been arranged, along with meals and refreshments, while airlines continue to facilitate rebooking procedures in line with approved operational plans.
