MUSCAT – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has completed the establishment and operation of an artificial rainmaking station in the Wilayat of Khasab, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance rainfall, develop groundwater resources, and support water sustainability targets across the Sultanate of Oman.
The station’s influence extends up to 70 kilometers in northwest and south directions, depending on geographical and prevailing weather conditions. This coverage is designed to increase cloud formation and stimulate rainfall in targeted areas.
The Khasab station is part of Oman’s artificial rainmaking network based on ionization technology, which enhances cloud condensation processes to boost precipitation. It is the 14th station in the national network, which includes 11 stations across the eastern and western Hajar Mountains, one additional station in Musandam, and two stations in the Dhofar Mountains, strengthening the system’s operational and geographical integration.

Officials said the project reflects the Ministry’s commitment to modern technologies and innovation in water resource management, contributing to water security, climate adaptation, and sustainable development.
The Ministry is also studying additional sites with favourable climatic and topographical conditions, ensuring that new stations’ areas of influence do not overlap with existing stations, to maximise operational efficiency and nationwide coverage.
