ISLAMABAD – At least 11 people were killed and more than 80 others were injured when an explosion ripped through a mosque in Islamabad during Friday prayers, police and local administration officials said.
The blast struck the Tarlai area of the Pakistani capital, where police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched search, rescue and relief operations, officials said.
The attack occurred during a two-day official visit to Pakistan by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, authorities said.

A spokesperson for the Islamabad Capital Territory Police, Taqi Jawad, said investigators were still assessing the nature of the explosion, adding that forensic teams would determine whether it was caused by a suicide bomber or an improvised explosive device.
Following the incident, emergency measures were imposed at major hospitals in the capital, including Polyclinic Hospital, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and CDA Hospital. A PIMS spokesperson said emergency protocols had been activated on the directives of the hospital’s executive director.
Security has been tightened across the city as investigations continue, officials said.
