MUSCAT : The CPA’s Department in Al Dakhiliyah, in partnership with Nizwa Municipality and other competent authorities, apprehended expatriate workers who were packaging various spices without obtaining the required licenses. The violation contravenes the Unified Law for Combating Commercial Fraud No. 54/2021 and poses a risk to public health.
The seizure followed the receipt of information indicating that food products were being prepared and packaged in a residential property without adherence to approved specifications or health requirements. After verifying the information, the authorities conducted a joint inspection campaign, which resulted in the discovery of more than 1,000 kilograms of food products stored in containers and processed using improper methods.
Inspections revealed that the seized products lacked essential labelling information, including production and expiry dates, increasing the potential risk to consumers. Consequently, all food items, along with the tools and equipment used in the packaging process, were confiscated to complete the necessary legal procedures against the violators in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law and its Executive Regulations.
The Consumer Protection Authority reaffirmed that such inspection campaigns are part of its ongoing regulatory plan, implemented in coordination with relevant authorities, to curb violations and prevent unsafe products from entering the market. The Authority also urged members of the public to report any observed violations through official communication channels, reinforcing community partnership and supporting national efforts to enhance quality of life in line with Oman Vision 2040.
