MUSCAT : Oman’s Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations at the Royal Oman Police has initiated legal proceedings against an Asian woman accused of insulting and disparaging the Omani currency after she published a video on social media depicting such conduct, authorities said on Sunday.
In a statement, the Royal Oman Police said the video showed behaviour that constitutes an offence under Omani law, which criminalises acts deemed disrespectful to the national currency and symbols.
The case has been referred for legal action in accordance with applicable procedures, the statement added, warning that misuse of social media platforms does not exempt individuals from accountability.
