Muscat: January 11 is observed annually as a day to renew loyalty and gratitude to the leader of the nation and to reflect on a journey defined by confidence, competence and an ambitious vision for the future. Since the start of His Majesty’s reign, Oman has continued to move forward on a clear national path that strengthens institutions, safeguards achievements and lays firm foundations for sustainable development in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Speaking to the Oman News Agency, Her Excellency Zahra bint Mohammed Redha Al Lawati, Deputy Head of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution for Oversight of Bodies, Investments and Companies, said that the lofty vision of His Majesty has played a central role in enhancing transparency and integrity across state institutions. She noted that this has been achieved through consolidating the rule of law and affirming accountability without exception.

She added that Oman Vision 2040 has empowered oversight bodies, strengthened their independence and helped protect public funds, while also promoting a culture of disclosure and clarity in government work. These measures, she said, have enhanced public trust, modernised administrative systems, improved efficiency and linked public responsibility with honesty and commitment, forming a sustainable reform approach that preserves the nation’s gains.

Her Excellency Al Lawati highlighted Oman’s notable progress in the Corruption Perceptions Index, published annually by Transparency International in Berlin. In 2024, the Sultanate advanced 20 places to rank 50th globally out of 180 countries, up from 70th in 2023, and fourth among Arab nations. Oman’s score rose to 55 from 43, reflecting its commitment to international best practices in integrity, governance and the protection of public funds.

From a legislative perspective, His Excellency Adel bin Al-Mirdas Al-Busaidi, Member of the State Council, said that since assuming the reins of power, His Majesty has focused on developing and modernising the achievements of the previous era, during which the foundations of the modern Omani state were established. He described Oman Vision 2040 as the roadmap for comprehensive and sustainable development, with the Council of Oman, comprising the State Council and the Shura Council, playing a key role through legislative review, specialised studies and governance-based oversight.

H.E. Al-Busaidi underscored the importance of fiscal balance, economic diversification, increasing non-oil revenues and the Sultanate’s growing focus on renewable and clean energy sources, including green carbon, alongside its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. He also pointed to administrative reforms that reduced institutional overlap, streamlined procedures and expanded the use of digital platforms and electronic services to improve efficiency and accessibility.

On the economic and future foresight front, Mubarak bin Khamis Al Hamdani, Director of the National Office for Future Foresight at the Ministry of Economy, outlined four key pillars underpinning His Majesty’s development philosophy: building a sustainable economic and social base; enabling growth through strong legislative and institutional frameworks; managing development through indicators and prudent follow-up; and balancing economic policies to support growth and quality of life.

He noted that the past five years have seen a clear focus on generating diversified and sustainable income, improving spending efficiency and directing resources toward strategic priorities. This has included expanding the production base, attracting foreign investment, strengthening international partnerships and establishing a comprehensive social protection system that fairly targets vulnerable groups.

Al Hamdani also highlighted the shift toward geographically balanced development through empowered governorates with legislative, financial and administrative authority, ensuring that economic growth, infrastructure and quality-of-life services reach all regions of the Sultanate. He added that the creation of the Oman Investment Authority marked a key step in consolidating and maximising returns from public assets, positioning them as a strategic lever for diversification and global partnerships.

Beyond its borders, Oman’s internal achievements have been mirrored by an active and principled foreign policy. Guided by the leadership of His Majesty, Omani diplomacy continues to be rooted in respect for sovereignty, non-interference, good neighbourliness, dialogue and peaceful coexistence. The Sultanate remains committed to international law, multilateral cooperation and the principles of the United Nations Charter, reinforcing its role as a reliable and responsible partner on the global stage.
