Muscat — Oman and India have signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Sultanate, marking a historic milestone in relations between the two countries and opening a new chapter in economic and strategic cooperation.

The agreement was signed in the presence of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Prime Minister Modi, underscoring the political commitment on both sides to deepen trade, investment and long-term partnership.

The CEPA is expected to significantly enhance bilateral trade flows, reduce tariffs, ease market access and create new opportunities across sectors including energy, logistics, manufacturing, technology, renewable energy and services. Officials said the pact aligns closely with Oman Vision 2040 and India’s broader global trade and investment strategy.

Oman and India share centuries-old civilisational and maritime links, with economic ties strengthened in recent decades by growing trade volumes and a strong Indian community in the Sultanate. India remains one of Oman’s key trading partners, while Oman continues to position itself as a strategic gateway to the Gulf, Africa and wider regional markets.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit is seen as a catalyst for expanding strategic dialogue, encouraging joint ventures and accelerating cooperation in emerging sectors. High-level discussions during the visit also focused on regional stability, connectivity and long-term economic collaboration.

The signing of the CEPA is expected to provide fresh momentum to Oman–India relations, reinforcing the partnership as one based on mutual trust, shared interests and sustainable growth.
