Muscat: The event, organized by the Omani Human Rights Commission and held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Kamil bin Fahd Al Said, showcased national achievements and future strategies aimed at strengthening the role of persons with disabilities in society and the workforce.

During the ceremony, Dr. Rashid bin Hamad Al-Balushi, Chairman of the Omani Human Rights Commission, emphasized that this year’s celebration reflects deep appreciation for the contributions of persons with disabilities to national development. He noted that Oman remains committed to ensuring their empowerment, protecting their rights, and expanding opportunities across all sectors.

Dr. Al-Balushi highlighted the Commission’s continued efforts in line with national legislation and international human rights conventions, underscoring the body’s strengthened global presence through participation in international conferences and active engagement with global human rights reports related to the Sultanate.

He added that community awareness remains a central pillar of the Commission’s mission, with programs, seminars, and lectures conducted throughout the year to reach diverse audiences. These initiatives align closely with the goals of Oman Vision 2040. Work is also progressing on the National Human Rights Strategy, developed in partnership with more than fifty governmental and non-governmental entities.

A key focus of current efforts includes advancing the rights of persons with disabilities through sign-language training programs and expanding collaborations with institutions specializing in disability support and care.

The ceremony featured an introductory film outlining the Commission’s work in monitoring rights, receiving complaints, strengthening institutional cooperation, and raising community awareness. A documentary highlighting Oman’s progress in supporting persons with disabilities further underscored national achievements in integration, empowerment, and accessibility.
