MUSCAT – In his address, His Excellency Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, affirmed that the Council operates within a framework of defined competencies that contribute to advancing Oman’s comprehensive development and strengthening its legislative structure in line with national visions and aspirations.
His Excellency stressed that integration and partnership in national decision-making form the cornerstone of the Council’s work with the Council of Ministers and the State Council, ensuring that all efforts serve the public interest.

He added that the annual media meeting reflects the Council’s commitment to transparency and communication, highlighting its role in engaging with the public and the media to share updates on its performance and discuss various national issues based on data and indicators.
His Excellency further emphasized the Council’s continued efforts to monitor societal issues and provide effective recommendations that address social and economic challenges.
During the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, delivered a presentation outlining the Council’s legislative and oversight competencies as defined by the Basic Law of the State and the Law of the Council of Oman.
He reviewed the Council’s key indicators and achievements during the first and second regular sessions of the tenth term, noting that the Council held 26 regular meetings, discussed numerous draft laws and ministerial statements, and submitted approximately 466 follow-up tools, including questions, information requests, and urgent statements on national matters.
On the legislative front, His Excellency stated that the Council completed 14 draft laws, 13 of which were issued by Royal Decrees, while the standing committees held more than 211 meetings and completed 255 topics.
He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to community partnership and public awareness, stressing that the annual media meeting serves as a platform to strengthen cooperation with the media and promote transparency in institutional work.
The meeting also featured a discussion session with the heads of the Council’s standing committees, who provided insights into their roles in reviewing draft laws, following up on government development plans, and engaging with relevant authorities on key national issues.
An accompanying exhibition showcased the Council’s major achievements, data, and indicators from the first half of the tenth term, illustrating its efforts in legislative review and citizen-focused discussions.
The event comes as part of the Shura Council’s ongoing efforts to enhance communication with media outlets and reinforce the principle of community participation, supporting transparency and trust in national institutions.
