MUSCAT – The launch event was held under the patronage of Her Excellency Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.

‘Itqan’ provides a unified and accredited mechanism for recording all professional activities students undertake during their academic journey. These include on-the-job training, field visits, professional certifications, workshops, competitions, part-time work, entrepreneurship projects, published research, and volunteer activities, among others.

Upon graduation, students will receive not only their academic degree but also a certified professional record of their non-academic achievements – an added credential designed to increase their competitiveness in the job market.

In his remarks at the launch, His Excellency Dr. Saeed bin Hamad Al Rubaie, Vice Chancellor of UTAS, described ‘Itqan’ as a milestone in the university’s journey to align higher education with the demands of Oman’s national development goals. It reflects UTAS’s commitment to preparing future leaders by equipping students with real-world skills and encouraging self-directed learning, he pointed out.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Shabli, Vice President for Academic Affairs at UTAS, emphasised that the registry is a unique institutional initiative. He explained that a broad range of stakeholders, including the private sector, government bodies, professional associations, and the university community, were engaged in the design and development of the system to ensure its effectiveness and impact.

The launch event included a visual presentation showcasing professional activities undertaken by students throughout their university years, followed by a detailed introduction to the Itqan project – its objectives, structure, documentation process, and implementation strategy. Students also shared their experiences and aspirations related to the new system.
