Muscat: Among the new intake are 72 doctors who graduated from the internship program, alongside four who have joined local fellowship programs in pediatric cardiology at the Royal Hospital, adult hematology at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, and ear medicine and surgery at Al Nahda Hospital.
Speaking during the induction ceremony, Dr. Hood bin Abdullah Al-Abri, Vice President for Academic Affairs at OMSB, highlighted that specialized training goes far beyond theory. “It is an intensive experience that takes you to advanced stages of mastery in clinical competence, where knowledge, skill, and behavior are combined to enable you to make sound decisions regarding patients and in the work environment in general,” he said.
Dr. Al-Abri stressed the importance of keeping pace with rapid technological change in medicine, pointing to simulation-based education, digital tools, and artificial intelligence as essential elements of modern medical training.

Dr. Rehana bint Abdulmunim Al-Majini, Head of Institutional Accreditation and Training Programs, outlined the structure of OMSB’s advanced education pathways, including performance evaluations, regulatory frameworks, and mechanisms to track trainee progress. She also urged new doctors to adopt adult learning methods and maintain work-life balance during their training journey.
The induction program featured an open discussion, allowing doctors to raise questions on curricula, assessments, academic support, and access to resources, including the OMSB medical library.
To meet the growing needs of Oman’s healthcare sector, OMSB has also launched a new urology training program this year, with its first batch of trainees beginning a five-year course at accredited centers.
As the country’s leading authority for advanced medical education, OMSB provides internationally accredited training programs recognized by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in the United States.
