MUSCAT – Implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the project provides a safe environment for fishermen, facilitates boat movement, enhances fish production, and supports sustainable development in coastal communities, in addition to protecting coastal areas from the impact of strong waves and tidal phenomena.

Eng. Ismail Ibrahim Al Farsi, Director of the Fisheries Department in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, explained that the project would contribute to the growth and revitalization of the local economy by facilitating fishing operations, supporting job opportunities, increasing productivity, and mitigating the effects of storms and cyclones. It would also improve boat efficiency, ease navigation, and prevent sinking.

He noted that the project cost approximately RO 2.9 million, with about 67% already completed. He emphasized the project’s importance for coastal communities in terms of maximizing economic, environmental, and social returns.

Eng. Ismail Al Farsi noted that the fish production volume in Sur reached 58,000 tons, with an approximate value of RO 30 million. The number of boats exceeds 2,200, with 4,700 fishermen operating in Tiwi. The port is located south near Sur Industrial Area, which houses several fish processing factories.
