MUSCAT – The announcement follows a government order to revive the statutory body, which is responsible for safeguarding the interests and welfare of expatriate Keralites.

The position of Chairperson had been vacant since former Chairperson Justice P. D. Rajan was appointed as the Ombudsman of the Local Self-Government Department. Justice Sophie Thomas, who retired as a judge of the Kerala High Court, also holds the distinction of being the first woman Registrar of the High Court.

Prominent Muscat-based migrant rights activist P. M. Jabir will continue his tenure as a member of the Commission. He is joined by three newly appointed members: Dr. Mathew K. Lukose from Kollam, M. M. Naeem from Malappuram, and Joseph Devasia P.

Established under the Non-Resident Indian (Keralites) Commissions Act, 2016, the body has been instrumental in resolving numerous grievances of expatriate Keralites. According to P. M. Jabir, the newly reconstituted Commission is set to assume charge shortly and will begin conducting hearings to address the concerns of the diaspora.
