MUSCAT – Scheduled to take place in Muscat this October, the initiative aims to enhance youth participation and develop their skills, aligning with the goals of the tenth five-year plan that prioritises youth empowerment.
The project’s continuation follows the success of its second edition in 2024, which successfully trained 100 young men and women in leadership and diplomacy. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the United Nations’ core principles and mechanisms, boosting their engagement in regional and international forums. The program plays a vital role in connecting Omani youth with global organisations and international platforms.

Hilal bin Saif Al Siyabi, who heads the Directorate General of Youth at the Ministry, pointed out that the Youth Ambassadors Programme is a flagship annual initiative reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to youth development. The positive feedback and growing demand since the first edition—where 75 participants took part—through to 100 in the second edition, show its growing impact, he noted.
He explained that this year’s target is 120 male and female participants, including 21 seats allocated to Gulf and Arab countries, most of which have given their initial approval to participate in this project.
The 2025 edition will feature key activities such as meetings between youth and diplomatic leaders, training sessions in partnership with UNITAR, a Model United Nations simulation, and opportunities for youth to participate in regional and international events.
The Model United Nations (MUN) simulation will engage around 100 young men and women alongside representatives from government, private sector, international organizations, academics, and entrepreneurs. Participants will role-play as diplomats representing various countries, simulating UN bodies such as the General Assembly, Security Council, and Economic and Social Council. Through debate and negotiation, they will address pressing global issues affecting youth today, drafting resolutions that mirror real-world UN outcomes.
Participants act as ambassadors, delivering speeches and representing their assigned countries’ views. They negotiate with allies and opponents to find solutions and draft resolutions benefiting the international community. The sessions adhere strictly to UN procedural rules, providing participants with insight into how global challenges—ranging from peace and security to human rights, the environment, hunger, economic development, and globalization—are addressed.
To apply, participants must be Omani nationals aged 18 to 29, committed to actively engaging in the program, and in good health without chronic illnesses. They must adhere to all program requirements and schedules. The first phase of selection is conducted electronically, giving preference to youth who have not participated in the first edition.
Selection will also ensure proportional representation across governorates based on data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, and maintain gender balance.
Applicants are required to complete all questions in the registration form as part of the selection process.
