Muscat: One of the largest recorded gatherings of the species in the region, the discovery marks a significant milestone in Oman’s ongoing conservation efforts.

Saif bin Habib Al Naabi, Environmental Systems Supervisor at the Environment Authority, confirmed that this mass sighting of the Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus) underlines the Sultanate’s critical role as a safe haven for migratory and resident bird species.

Classified as a globally threatened species due to habitat loss and poaching, the Egyptian vulture’s presence in such numbers is viewed as a positive indicator of the region’s ecological health.

The monitoring is part of the Environment Authority’s broader efforts to track biodiversity across Oman. The Sultanate has become an increasingly important hub for ecotourism and scientific research, often documenting rare and endangered bird species across its diverse landscapes.
