Oman’s CPA recovers RO 3,000 over failure to fulfil contract within agreed timeframe

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) Directorate in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has successfully recovered RO 3,000 for a consumer following a dispute with a commercial establishment.

MUSCAT : According to a statement from the CPA, the establishment failed to fulfil a contract for the installation of an electric elevator.


The recovery is part of the Authority’s continued efforts to uphold consumer rights and ensure fair resolutions through legal and amicable channels.


The case stems from a complaint filed by a local consumer who had entered into a formal agreement with the company for the installation of an electric elevator in his residence. After making an advance payment of RO 3,000, the consumer faced repeated delays spanning over a year, with no valid justification or progress on the project.


This prompted the consumer to lodge an official complaint with the CPA’s Directorate in Al Dakhiliyah, which took necessary legal measures, verified the details, and initiated communication with both parties. The Directorate reached an amicable settlement and succeeded in securing a full refund of the amount paid, effectively terminating the contract and restoring the consumer’s financial rights.


The Authority underlined the obligation of suppliers to comply with contractual terms and to respect the legal framework governing consumer transactions in the Sultanate.


The Authority also affirmed that it will not hesitate to take the necessary measures to ensure a fair and safe commercial environment, and encouraged consumers to report any violations of their rights in order to ensure transparency and fairness in the market.
