NEW YORK : Oman was represented by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority and President of the 7th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7).

The forum, themed “Promoting sustainable, inclusive, science-based and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, gathered global leaders to tackle key challenges such as climate change, inequality, and economic instability through data-driven strategies and integrated solutions.

Speaking at the ministerial segment, HE Dr. Al Amri emphasized the urgency of adopting comprehensive, science-based environmental policies, especially as the world prepares for UNEA-7, set to take place in Nairobi in December 2025. He highlighted the interconnectedness of environmental health and public well-being, calling for integrated approaches like the “One Health” principle to address global challenges holistically.

HE Dr. Al Amri stressed the importance of circular economy models for sustainable consumption and production and urged nations to embed these solutions into their national strategies. He also called for stronger international cooperation to finalize and ratify key agreements, including those on plastic pollution and marine biodiversity protection in areas beyond national jurisdiction.

In addition to policy frameworks, HE Dr. Al Amri underlined the urgent need to reform the international financial system to unlock sustainable and innovative financing mechanisms. He also advocated for greater inclusion of conflict-affected regions in sustainability efforts and underscored the role of environmental justice in achieving peace and global progress.

On the sidelines of the forum, HE Dr. Al Amri held high-level meetings with the President of the UN General Assembly and Hungary’s Minister of Environment, exploring Oman’s role in advancing international environmental cooperation and preparations for UNEA-7.

The Environment Authority, in partnership with the Environment Society of Oman, also co-hosted an event focused on empowering youth in climate action and marine protection, in line with Sustainable Development Goals 13 (climate action), 14 (life below water), and 17 (partnerships for the goals).
