MUSCAT – A pillar of the school’s music and arts faculty, Lekha Jackson’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of colleagues, students, and families alike.
In a heartfelt statement, the school expressed its deep sorrow at her passing: “It is with heavy hearts that the ISAS fraternity bids farewell to their beloved music teacher, Ms. Lekha Jackson, who passed away in India on 21st July 2025 after battling cancer for five months. Joining the school in August 2006, Lekha has left an indelible mark on all those she chanced upon during her time here. She had been a pillar of the school community for nearly two decades.”
“Being of vibrant and vivacious nature, she used to be a breath of fresh air to all she met, making her a favourite among the students and staff alike. Lekha was well known for her love and passion for music which was contagious, and she inspired her students to develop their talents and explore their creativity.”
Lekha was not only a teacher, but a cultural ambassador who played an instrumental role in school performances, inter-school competitions, and community events. She led choirs in major functions hosted by the Indian Social Club and Indian Embassy, earning widespread praise and bringing home numerous accolades.
In 2017, she was honoured with the Best Teachers Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Board of Directors in Oman. Her contributions were recognised across Oman, where she received multiple awards and certificates from schools and cultural organizations. Beyond the classroom, she was a well-known figure in the local music scene, often performing at public events and on television.
“The school community greatly mourns her loss, but her legacy will continue to resonate through the beautiful music she created and the countless students whose lives she touched. Her loss has left a big void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered fondly for her jovial and outgoing nature, passion, dedication and unwavering commitment to her students,” stated the School.
Shameer PTK, a member of the Indian School Board, shared a deeply personal tribute, highlighting Lekha Jackson’s impact beyond her role as a teacher. ” Being part of the schooling system, I have known her since 2015. I have a very personal rapport with her. She shared everything. I lost more than a teacher — I lost a very dear friend.
“Actually, for Oman, we lost a versatile singer. For the school, we lost a teacher. She was very dedicated, not only in co-curricular classes – whatever function, whatever programme, she was part of everything.”
Shameer recounted assisting Lekha with her medical needs before she left Oman, emphasising the gravity of her loss. He explained that Lekha was under the care of renowned oncologist Dr. Gangadhran, a Padma Bhushan awardee, and received further treatment at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. Her illness was diagnosed at an advanced stage, with few symptoms beforehand.
Shameer also praised her strength as an independent mother who single-handedly raised two daughters, one currently pursuing her post-graduate degree and the other in Grade 9.
Parents also voiced their profound sadness. Salih Thacher, whose daughter Reesha was mentored by Lekha, expressed the shock and disbelief felt by many: “My daughter Reesha’s mentor, and music teacher of Indian school Seeb (Muscat) Lekha, left us so early. Unbelievable.. You will always remain in our hearts forever. Rest in peace.. With tears..”
The sudden departure of Lekha has left a void in the hearts of the ISAS community. Her legacy as a dedicated educator, a passionate artist, and a truly compassionate individual will undoubtedly continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
