WASHINGTON: The greenback held its ground against major currencies, with the dollar index slipping slightly to 98.003—just shy of its overnight peak of 98.136, the highest since June 25. Against the Japanese yen, the dollar was nearly flat, trading at 147.62 yen after touching 147.89 earlier, its strongest level since June 23.
As eyes turn to the upcoming inflation report, markets are weighing its impact on interest rate expectations and broader financial conditions.
In cryptocurrency markets, Bitcoin retreated to $117,550 after hitting an all-time high of $123,153.22 on Sunday. The decline comes after a 14% rally over the past week, fuelled by optimism surrounding potential regulatory breakthroughs for digital assets in the US.

In other currency moves, the euro edged up to $1.1681 after briefly falling to a three-week low of $1.1650 on Sunday. The Chinese yuan weakened slightly in offshore trading, slipping to 7.1766 per dollar, while the Australian dollar held steady at $0.6548.
