Commercial establishment in Oman’s Barka Wilayat fined over RO 2,000 for defective fridge, failure to issue Arabic invoice

The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in the Wilayat of Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, has issued a judicial ruling in favour of a consumer following a dispute with a commercial establishment over a defective refrigerator

Muscat – According to the CPA, the consumer purchased the appliance and soon discovered a defect that significantly impaired its cooling efficiency. Despite contacting the establishment for inspection or a replacement, the consumer received no response.
After reviewing the case, the competent court convicted the defendants for two offenses:

  1. Failure to provide the service properly and in accordance with its nature.
  2. Failure to issue the consumer an invoice written in Arabic.
    The court imposed fines of RO 600 for the first offense and RO 500 for the second, per defendant.
