Muscat: The revelation has sparked online debate, drawing both racist backlash and fierce support from fans who are celebrating India’s growing role in global game development.

The spotlight on Indian talent emerged after a post by @GTAVI_Countdown on X (formerly Twitter) shared figures suggesting that out of the nearly 6,000 developers working on GTA 6, around 1,615 are based in India. The post, published on June 5, has since gone viral, crossing 1.9 million views and igniting conversations around diversity in gaming.

GTA 6 is set to become the first title in the franchise developed by all Rockstar Games studios collectively, spanning 10 global locations. While over 2,600 developers are reportedly based in Rockstar’s UK studios and 1,400 in the US, India’s contribution—through Rockstar India—has been particularly notable, with the studio said to be leading the development of the game’s “Vice Beach” area.

This isn’t India’s first rodeo with Rockstar. Indian developers had a hand in the creation of GTA V back in 2013, with industry professionals like Satish Bharadwaj—a lead animator based in India—playing key roles in character animation and motion capture, as listed on his LinkedIn profile.

With GTA 6’s second trailer already out as of May 2025, anticipation continues to build ahead of the official release—this time with significant credit going to Indian talent behind the screen.
