Muscat: Oman witnessed continued credit expansion, as the total credit balance granted by conventional commercial banks rose by 7.9 percent over the one-year period. Credit to the private sector specifically saw a 5.2 percent increase, reaching RO 21.3 billion by the end of April 2025.
In terms of investments, conventional banks boosted their total investments in securities by 2.1 percent, amounting to approximately RO 5.8 billion. A notable contributor to this growth was a 6.2 percent rise in investments in government development bonds, which climbed to RO 2 billion. However, investments in foreign securities dipped by 3.7 percent, settling at RO 2.1 billion.
On the liabilities side, total deposits surged by 6.1 percent to RO 25.7 billion. Government deposits with commercial banks increased by 6.2 percent to approximately RO 5.8 billion, while public sector deposits grew significantly by 11.4 percent to RO 2.2 billion. Private sector deposits also saw a healthy rise of 4.5 percent, reaching RO 16.8 billion, and accounting for 65.2 percent of the total deposit base.
