Muscat: Mahmoud Al Hasani was not just a media personality—he was a storyteller whose voice echoed across the Sultanate for decades. Born and raised in Muttrah, a place he cherished deeply, Mahmoud remained rooted in his hometown even as his career blossomed into national acclaim.
The news of his passing sent ripples of sorrow across Oman, with family and friends gathering for his funeral in Seeb by afternoon. For many, the loss was too profound to put into words.
A creative spirit from childhood, Mahmoud showed signs of leadership and charisma early on. His childhood friend Murtada Al Lawati recalled.

By 1990, Mahmoud had stepped into the world of media, joining the Ministry of Information alongside celebrated filmmaker Mohammed Al Kindi. While Al Kindi pursued television, Mahmoud took to radio—a space where his voice would become iconic.
Over the years, Mahmoud wore many hats: radio presenter, scriptwriter, director, television actor, and mentor. His final years were spent quietly working on a YouTube series about his beloved Muttrah, often editing alone at the Oman Film Society.
Khamis Al Balushi, Veteran broadcaster and renowned sports journalist, wrote on his X platform:
“We worked together for decades in the corridors and studios of the radio, which he loved without limits. There is not enough space to say everything, as he was always the smiling person who filled the place with his presence, and a gifted writer, director and artist who filled the dramatic work with tales, stories and laughter. We will dearly miss him.”
Fittingly, his last post on Instagram was a reflective voiceover on January 31, 2025, reciting verses of glorification—“Glory to God.”
Mahmoud Al Hasani leaves behind more than a legacy—he leaves behind the sound of Oman itself.
