Muscat: Students and teachers from as far as Jalan, Khasab, Sur, Ibri, Rustaq, Salalah and other schools in Muscat and nearby areas arrived at the campus of the National University for Science and Technology to compete in various fields organised by the Annual Science Fiesta 2025 of the Indian Science Forum.
The Annual Science Fiesta 2025, held on the 23rd and 24th of May, was a resounding success, bringing together bright young minds from across Oman for a dynamic celebration of science, technology, and innovation.

Indian School Al Ghubra was declared as the overall champion, the first Runner-Up was Indian School Bousher and the second Runner-Up was Indian School Mabela.
The theme this year was “AI – Mind Meets Machine.” All competitions were centred around this concept, with topics related to Artificial Intelligence featured in events such as debates, poster making, Digital Symposium, Exhibition etc.
More than 5,000 students had registered for the Shastra Pratibha Contest, and the top performers from each grade, the ‘Sastra Pratibha’s, were honoured during the event for their outstanding achievements.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Science and Technology Achievement Award was presented by the Indian Ambassador, G V Srinivas to Dr Monojit Choudhury, Professor at Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Abu Dhabi, who was also the Keynote Speaker.

contributed to the fields of historical and evolutionary linguistics, sociolinguistics, ethics, culture studies, and ethnography.
Science Fiesta 2025 is dedicated to 70th year of India–Oman diplomatic relations. In this regard, Renowned Omani technologist, thought leader, and community influencer Tariq Hilal Al Barwani was honoured with the prestigious Jayakar Award.
Named after Dr A S G Jayakar, a distinguished Indian scholar and visionary, the Jayakar Award recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to science, education, and social development. Al Barwani’s impactful work in technology, youth empowerment, and cross-cultural engagement earned him this year’s accolade.
“This award is not just a recognition of past achievements, but a call to continue building, inspiring, and transforming lives,” said Al Barwani. “I dedicate this honour to every young dreamer who believes in the power of knowledge, resilience, and service to society.”
The award was presented by His Excellency G V Srinivas, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, in the presence of Dr. J Retnakumar, Chairman of the Indian Science Forum, Kiran Asher and Syed Ahmad Salman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman.
Dr. J. Retnakumar, Chairman, Indian Science Forum, Oman said , science competitions are essential for students, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. They challenge participants to solve problems and apply scientific concepts, enhancing research skills and boosting confidence. Engaging in these events can ignite a lasting passion for science, inspiring students to pursue STEM careers, which are vital for societal progress.
He said “Support from parents and teachers plays a pivotal role in this process. Parents can motivate students and provide resources, while teachers offer guidance and mentoring. A positive environment that values effort over winning helps students focus on learning. Ultimately, the combined encouragement enhances the educational journey, benefiting both individuals and society as a whole,” noted Dr Retnakumar.
“With enthusiastic participation from 23 schools across the Sultanate, the fiesta provided a vibrant platform to showcase scientific knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking, inspiring the next generation of innovators,” said General Secretary of the ISF, Suresh AM.
“On behalf of ISF, we express profound thanks to HE GV Srinivas, Ambassador of India who amidst his busy schedule, inaugurated the Annual Science Fiesta, Prof. Dr. Monojit Choudhury from Abudhabi who delivered the keynote address and Mr. Tariq Al Barwani, senior technology leader in Oman as guest of honor and Mr. Kiran Asher , Founder & MD of Al Ansari group and Mr. Syed Salman, Chairman, Indian schools board of directors and all directors, principals, teachers, students and parents for making the Annual Science Fiesta a grand success,” stated the management committee.
The ceremony brought together academics, innovators, and students from diverse backgrounds, underscoring the unifying role of science and education. Al Barwani’s recognition further highlights the enduring and dynamic relationship between Oman and India, rooted in shared values of innovation, respect, and community development.
“More than 300 students actively participated, demonstrating their talent, insight, and passion for science. The topics explored ranged from climate change and space exploration to cutting-edge themes in Artificial Intelligence and sustainability. The competitions fostered a spirit of healthy competition, innovation, and teamwork throughout the day,” said General Coordinator of ISF, Mrs. Latha Sreejith.
The second day saw the annual quiz and the science exhibition.
“With over 350 students participating, the Science Quiz was a thrilling display of scientific acumen, testing students’ knowledge across disciplines. And the response from the students was excellent,” pointed out Mr.Hala Jamal, the Igniter’s Quiz master.
In parallel, the Science Exhibition transformed the venue into a hub of interactive learning, featuring innovative models, experiments, and demonstrations—all conceived and presented by the students themselves.
The Annual Science Fiesta 2025 successfully extended the boundaries of classroom learning, giving students the opportunity to think critically, communicate effectively, and explore the real-world applications of science. Mr. Suresh Akkamadathil, General Secretary, welcomed, and Mr. Gandhiraj , Treasurer, delivered the vote of thanks to dignitaries and all, including supporters of the event
