Muscat: ABA Oman International School proudly celebrates an exceptional year of competition and achievement in the Middle East South Asia Conference (MESAC), marked by the return of two coveted Championship banners in Cross Country and Badminton, alongwith a series of impressive performances across all three seasons.

Throughout the 2024–2025 academic year, ABA students represented the school in over a dozen MESAC events, ranging from Swimming, Volleyball, Academic Games and Golf in Season 1; Soccer, Tennis, Cross Country, Basketball and Fine Arts in Season 2; to Badminton, Softball, Track & Field and Speech & Debate in Season 3. Each season showcased the breadth of talent, determination, and resilience of our ABA student athletes and participants.

This year, ABA had the honor of hosting four MESAC competitions – Swimming, Cross Country, Tennis, and Badminton – across the three seasons, showcasing the school’s strong commitment to sportsmanship and excellence. Athletes from Grades 8 to 12, both Junior Varsity and Varsity, competed with pride on home ground.

In the first season of MESAC, ABA hosted the MESAC JV and Varsity Swimming Championships, welcoming 136 swimmers and 24 coaches to Muscat. The team delivered 24 Medals in total. Varsity boys finished third overall, making it an impressive 5th year in a row on the podium. Max dominated the division taking 7 individual golds and 2 MESAC records in the 100m Individual Medley and 100M Freestyle. The ABA Relays performed superbly, taking podium positions in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay and 4 x 100m Medley Relay. Working in partnership with the Oman Aquatics Federation, the event team at ABA Aquatics delivered an event that will not be forgotten by the competing MESAC athletes.

Also in season 1, the Academic Games delegation earned top honors, including gold medals in Varsity Engineering awarded to Mateo, Rashida, Sepehr, Bryce, Jiaheng, Joanna, Shreshta and Petar, and a gold medal in individual Golf for Krish.

In the second season of MESAC ABA hosted Cross Country and Tennis. The Boys Cross Country team comprising Aqil, Marat, Loay, Daniel, Burhan, Mateo, Ayaan, and Adam, secured the school’s first MESAC team gold since 2019 in a landmark win, earning ABA its first championship banner of the year. The victory was led by standout performances from Aqil and Loay, who claimed first and second place respectively in both 5km races.

The final season of MESAC brought another wave of victories. ABA hosted the MESAC Badminton Tournament, where ABA’s Varsity team comprising Anushka, Angela, Zainab, Grace, Rupsa, Audrey, Ved, Britt, Naresh, Yihao, Lester and Rayaan dominated, taking top honors clinching the Varsity Badminton Championship, earning the second Championship banner of the year. Congratulations to Lester and Rupsa winning Gold in Varsity Mixed Doubles, Zainab and Grace securing Gold in Varsity Girls Doubles and Ved taking the Gold in the Varsity Boys Singles. Furthermore, the Track & Field team brought home 4 individual gold medals awarded to Marat for the Junior Varsity boys 800m and 1500m run, Loay in the Junior Varsity boys 3000m run and Aqil for the Varsity boys 3000m run. In addition to these victories, ABA students also earned medals and wins in tennis, track & field, badminton, academic games, and speech & debate.

“Our students have shown tremendous grit, growth, and determination this year,” said Sarah Harman, Athletics Director at ABA. “From the early morning practices to the final whistle, they have given their all, not just for themselves, but for their teams and their school. Bringing home two championship banners is a proud moment for ABA, but what’s even more meaningful is seeing our athletes become leaders, teammates, and global citizens through the MESAC experience.”

MESAC is one of the region’s most prestigious interscholastic leagues, bringing together six premier international schools: ABA Oman International School (Muscat), American Community School of Abu Dhabi (ACS), American Embassy School (AES) New Delhi, American School of Doha (ASD), American School of Dubai (ASD), and Dubai American Academy (DAA). The league provides students with opportunities to compete at the highest level in athletics, academics, and the arts, while fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and cultural exchange.
