MUSCAT : The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the Oman Sustainability Week and the Oman Petroleum and Energy Show 2025, currently being held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The financing agreements included diverse projects across several sectors, such as education, health, environment, water, and community infrastructure development, reflecting the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and enhancing national competencies.

Dr. Aflah bin Said Al Hadhrami, Managing Director of PDO, said: “These agreements embody an extension of PDO’s integrated approach to achieving tangible social impact and strengthening partnerships with national institutions to support the sustainable development process.”

He pointed out that these community projects funded by the company represent a practical translation of its deep understanding of its position within the fabric of society. It also reflects its responsibility towards its members, in line with the objectives of “Oman Vision 2040” and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

In the education sector, the company signed an agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation to support a new batch of the Community Scholarship Program for the 2025–2026 academic year. The program provides 150 fully-funded scholarships to students from the company’s concession area, distributed among 85 diploma-level seats and 65 bachelor’s-level seats.

In partnership with Sultan Qaboos University, the company will finance the establishment of the Emerging Technologies Unit, the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, to support more than 20,000 students annually, and over 3,000 graduation projects in fields such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, and cybersecurity.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, PDO will also support five development programmes, which aim to enhance students’ readiness to choose their career paths in the concession area and instil a culture of innovation and openness to the world. In addition, two kindergarten classrooms will be established in two schools within the company’s concession area, supporting early childhood education and investing in the future of future generations.

In the health sector, PDO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Daleel Petroleum, will contribute to the expansion of the emergency department at Ibri Hospital, which serves more than 50,000 patients annually. It will also finance the construction of a new health centre in the Andat area of Dhofar Governorate – in partnership with the Ministry of Health – to serve neighbouring villages and energy sector workers, and improve access to health services in remote areas.

Besides, as part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability, the company is collaborating with Namaa Water Services to build a desalination plant and distribution network in the southern Ghubrah area of Al Jazira, providing water to more than 300 residents.

It is working with the Al Jisr Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to establish a camel cheese production facility in Rakhyut Governorate, with the aim of empowering more than 4,000 camel owners and creating a source of income for those working in this new economic activity.
An agreement has also been signed to provide additional support to the camel racing track in the Wilayat of Maqshan in Dhofar Governorate.

The company signed agreements to support defensive driving training programs for 580 ambulance drivers in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police, provide advanced equipment to the Water Technology Laboratory at Sultan Qaboos University, and contribute to the completion of the final phase of the Bahla Cultural Center, a community and cultural platform in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

In addition, the company will fund 20 youth skills development programs within the Youth Centre’s 2025 programs, aiming to develop the skills of more than 4,000 Omani youth.

The signing of the agreements was attended by His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, President of Sultan Qaboos University, and a number of Their Excellencies the Undersecretaries, Walis, and Directors General of the signing sectors.
