Muscat – Continuing the journey towards smart and sustainable transportation systems, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with Phoenix Space and Technology Company and GUAMobility, has organised the two-day Urban Air Mobility Forum – Oman 2025.

The forum features broad participation from government and private entities, academic institutions, and international institutions working in the fields of aviation, space, and advanced technology.

It aims to launch a strategic and professional dialogue on the development of urban air mobility system – a subset of a broader advanced air mobility (AAM) – in the Sultanate, as one of the new components of the integrated transport system. It will promote innovation and employment, and improve the quality of life in Omani cities.

The forum also aims to form the first nucleus of the national AAM system through the participation of relevant stakeholders. It will focus on unifying visions on investment priorities, infrastructure, and regulation to prepare a live trial programme, which will explore investment opportunities in this emerging sector. It will develop advanced mobility products and services, in addition to formulating the national air mobility strategy, including the regulatory, technical, and economic framework.

Besides, the forum will strengthen the Sultanate of Oman’s candidacy to host the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) AAM World Forum in 2026.

The participation of various national and international entities in this event confirms that the forum is not limited to dialogue alone, but extends to formulating a multi-sector national strategy for the advanced urban air mobility sector, promoting investment, stimulating innovation, and opening new horizons for entrepreneurship in this field. It will contribute to develop an integrated, smart, and safe infrastructure that responds to future needs, empower Omani youth, and build globally competitive national capabilities in the fields of aviation, communications, and artificial intelligence.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), as the regulatory body responsible for regulating airspace, will lead the development of legislation and regulations related to urban air mobility, in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and relevant authorities, to ensure the readiness of the legal and operational framework for this new system.

A group of companies, in coordination with the Ministry, is also planning to launch a national pilot area (Geozone) dedicated to testing AAM applications and technologies in a safe and realistic environment, with the aim of enabling research institutions and startups to develop their solutions within the Sultanate.
The forum will also present concepts for launching five pilot projects, including intercity urban transport, air freight and logistics, ambulance and emergency medical services, air security and surveillance, and the development of national innovation incubators.
