OPAZ achieves 37% Omanisation rate in special economic and free zones, national workforce exceeds 29,000

The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) highlighted significant progress in Omanisation during 2024, as part of its annual review of achievements across the Sultanate’s economic zones.

MUSCAT : Speaking at the annual media briefing, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Chairman of OPAZ, announced that the Omanisation rate in special economic zones, free zones, and industrial cities rose to 37 percent, with more than 29,000 Omani nationals currently employed.

The total workforce in these zones, including service providers, stands at approximately 78,000.



The year 2024 witnessed a positive trend in employment generation, with 3,597 Omanis appointed across various active projects within these zones.

Industrial cities recorded the highest Omanisation rate, exceeding 40 percent, reflecting strong engagement with the national workforce and a strategic focus on sustainable employment.

His Excellency emphasised that the national workforce remains the cornerstone of economic development and praised the tangible efforts by investors and operators in the zones to support the Sultanate’s human capital development goals.
