KUWAIT: As a part of the eighth round of the final qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the match is a must-win for the Reds, who are currently fourth in Group Two with 7 points, trailing South Korea (15), Jordan, and Iraq (12 each).
Kuwait sits just behind Oman with 5 points, making tomorrow’s result potentially decisive. A win would not only push Oman five points clear of Kuwait but also put the team within reach of a play-off berth and keep direct qualification hopes alive.

Ibrahim Al Alawi, head of Oman’s national team delegation emphasized that a win secures a place in the play-offs by 90 percent and boosts their chances of direct qualification depending on other group results.

Oman’s journey through the third phase has been a rollercoaster—marked by a strong 4-0 win over Kuwait in the reverse fixture, a draw against South Korea, and tight losses to Iraq and Jordan. Coach Rashid Jaber emphasized in a press conference that the team is ready and focused, treating each remaining fixture like a cup final.
Oman’s final training session focused on tactical drills and physical readiness, with the starting lineup taking shape. The match will be officiated by a Qatari refereeing crew, with Salman Falahi as the main referee and VAR support also in place.
Historically, Oman and Kuwait have clashed 31 times, with Oman securing 10 wins, Kuwait 9, and 12 matches ending in draws.
Following the clash today, Oman will face Jordan in Muscat on June 5 and Palestine in Amman on June 10 in what will be decisive fixtures for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
