MUSCAT : The Ministry has clarified key points to address misconceptions surrounding the issue.
First, the Ministry noted that the term ‘failures in the first semester’ used in online discussions is inaccurate. Success and failure are determined based on the final academic results for the entire year, not just the first semester. Therefore, the claim circulating online that focused on first-semester results was scientifically incorrect.
Secondly, the Ministry highlighted that the general indicators of academic achievement for the General Education Diploma in the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year showed a strong performance, with a passing rate of 80.76 percent. This figure closely mirrors the results from the previous three academic years, which were 80.24 percent, 80.78 percent, and 80.85 percent, respectively. As such, the percentage of students not meeting the minimum passing grade of 50 percent falls within the normal range for grade distribution.
Furthermore, the Ministry noted that a significant number of students had achieved high marks. A total of 20,269 students scored between 80 percent and 99.88 percent, with 8,660 of them earning scores above 90 percent. These results are consistent with those of previous years, underscoring that the first-semester academic performance is within expected levels.
In closing, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving the educational experience for students. Through curriculum development, educational supervision, modern technology integration, teacher training, and various initiatives, the Ministry strives to enhance academic performance. The Ministry wishes all students continued success and assures that their efforts will be supported throughout the year.
