BEIRUT: The ceasefire proposal, drafted by Washington and submitted in writing last week, has received preliminary approval from Hezbollah and the Lebanese government, according to Ali Hassan Khalil, a senior aide to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. Both parties have offered comments on the proposal’s content.

Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran, designated Berri to lead the negotiations while continuing its military escalation against Israel. Meanwhile, Israel has yet to issue an official response to the U.S. proposal.
