Bomb threat forces emergency landing of Air India Express flight from Dubai to Jaipur

Air India Express flight IX-196, en route from Dubai to Jaipur with 189 passengers on board, made an emergency landing at Jaipur International Airport at 1:20 am on Saturday following a bomb threat received via email.

Muscat: Authorities quickly evacuated the aircraft, and a thorough inspection by security forces revealed no suspicious items. Nothing suspicious was found, as per the Jaipur Airport Police Station House Officer. The police are investigating the source of the threat.

In light of the incident, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) announced plans to tighten existing laws against hoax bomb threats. Senior MoCA official, emphasized that a committee will draft amendments to the Aircraft Act of 1934 and Aircraft Rules of 1937, recommending five-year imprisonment for offenders linked to hoax bomb threats.

The move comes amid a worrying spike in bomb hoaxes, with 26 such threats reported in the past four days alone. These false alarms have caused significant disruptions, with diverted flights, delays, and financial losses. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu stated that many of these calls appear to come from pranksters.
