Oman’s Sultan Qaboos Academy launches 2nd scientific conference on security innovation

The Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences began its second scientific conference today under the theme "Creativity and Innovation in the Field of Security Work" at its headquarters in Nizwa.

MUSCAT : His Excellency Sheikh Al Fadhel bin Mohammed Al Harthy, Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, inaugurated the event, alongside His Excellency Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.

The two-day conference, designed to promote creativity and innovation in the security sector, will feature 20 working papers and the participation of experts, academics, and researchers from Oman and abroad.

In his opening remarks, Colonel Saleh bin Salem Al-Khanjari, Director of Public Relations and Security Media at the Royal Oman Police (ROP), emphasized ROP’s ongoing commitment to scientific advancements. Al-Khanjari highlighted that this year’s focus is on turning creative knowledge into practical innovations that will elevate service quality and operational efficiency in line with Oman’s national goals.

Al-Khanjari explained the strides made in digitizing police services and developing cutting-edge solutions to address modern security challenges.

Colonel Dr. Khalifa bin Hamed Al Farai, Commander of the Sultan Qaboos Academy and Chairman of the Conference’s Main Committee, spoke of the Academy’s role in fostering an environment conducive to research and creativity. He also highlighted the Academy’s recent success, including winning the 2023 Prince Naif Award for Security Research.

The conference delves into topics such as the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in crime prevention, the challenges of biometric databases, and the protection of AI intellectual property. Papers presented on the first day tackled AI applications in criminal analysis, the security awareness of higher education students, and the legislative frameworks supporting police innovation in Oman.

An exhibition of scientific research and a series of training workshops on AI and digital innovation are also part of the event.
