KOCHI : Yusuff Ali, the chairman of Lulu Group and an Abu Dhabi-based businessman, stepped in to rescue Sandhya, a woman from North Paravur, Kerala, after she was evicted from her home by Manappuram Finance due to an unpaid loan.
Sandhya, who works at a local clothing store, took out a ₹ 4 lakh loan in 2019 with her husband to build a house under Kerala’s Life Housing Scheme. However, rising construction costs and her husband’s abandonment in 2021 left her unable to repay the loan. The debt ballooned to nearly ₹ 8 lakh over three years despite multiple warnings from the lender.
On Monday, Manappuram Finance officials foreclosed on the house, locking Sandhya and her two children, aged 12 and 7, out without allowing them to collect their belongings. Local media quickly picked up the story, drawing public outcry and prompting opposition leader VD Satheesan to appeal leniency.

By Monday evening, Sandhya was handed back the keys to her home by Lulu Group’s media coordinator, restoring her hope.
