WASHINGTON : The US National Hurricane Center reported that the hurricane’s wind speed reached 193 kilometres per hour.

The center expects that ‘Milton’ will move from the Gulf Coast of Florida across the state towards the Atlantic Ocean, with severe devastation occurring offshore.

The hurricane brought powerful storm surges to parts of Florida, with water levels rising rapidly and causing massive flooding.

Meteorologists expect this hurricane to become one of the most dangerous storms in Florida’s history; in addition to high wind speeds, heavy rains and dangerous high tides are expected.

US authorities have called on millions of residents to evacuate their homes and there have been reports of traffic jams and gasoline shortages.

The hurricane caused the postponement of US President Joe Biden’s trip to Germany and Angola, which was scheduled to begin on Thursday.
