MUSCAT : The data, showing a 35% decrease in accidents, 46% drop in deaths, and 33% decline in injuries, underscores a positive trend in road safety during the holy month.
Brigadier Engineer Ali bin Sulayem Al Falahi, the Director General of Traffic, has emphasized the collective responsibility shared by all members of society to uphold road safety standards and ensure smooth traffic flow during Ramadan. Factors contributing to increased traffic during this period include heightened commercial activities, social gatherings for iftar, and individuals rushing to complete tasks before breaking their fast.
Al Falahi highlighted several dangerous driving behaviours observed during Ramadan, such as speeding, reckless driving, and distracted driving caused by mobile phone use. These behaviours, improper lane changes, and overtaking significantly contribute to traffic accidents, especially on single-lane and two-way roads.
