Muscat: The Interconnection – Phase Two project is designed to interlink the main electricity transmission network with the Dhofar electricity network by establishing transmission lines between the Duqm station and the Dhofar station, strategically located in Salalah. A major transmission station will be erected in the Shaleem region as part of this comprehensive initiative.

Key elements of the project include constructing electricity transmission lines spanning 590 kilometres between Duqm and Dhofar stations, focusing on improving system efficiency and reducing costs, particularly in the vibrant city of Salalah. Moreover, the project aligns with Oman’s plans to integrate renewable energy sources by facilitating the connection of renewable energy plants to the transmission network.

Highlighting the significance of this endeavour, M. Saleh bin Nasser Al Ramahi, CEO of Oman Electricity Transmission Company, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing operational capabilities and expanding the transmission network. He stated, “The Oman Electricity Transmission Company is working through various projects to develop and improve the network’s performance in line with the increasing demand in the electricity sector.”

Furthermore, the expansion projects in Dhofar Governorate, with a total cost of approximately RO 65 million, will extend electricity transmission lines by 269 kilometres and establish three new electricity transmission stations with a voltage of 132 kilovolts. This expansion will benefit regions such as Al-Mazyouna, the Niyabat of Shahab, Usa’ib, Barakhiut, and Thumrait, contributing significantly to the region’s energy infrastructure development.
