Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman aims to achieve at least 30 per cent of electrical energy consumption from renewable sources by the year 2030.

His Excellency Engineer Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi emphasized Oman’s commitment to transitioning towards renewable energy sources. He highlighted ongoing efforts in the oil and gas sectors to reduce routine burning processes, alongside initiatives in industrial zones and cities to adopt environmentally friendly energy alternatives.

The Minister elaborated on comprehensive studies underway to evaluate alternative energy solutions, their economic viability, and the necessary adaptations for industries to adopt modern technologies. He underscored that sectors contributing significantly to carbon emissions, such as industry, electricity production, oil and gas, and transportation, are focal points for mitigation efforts.

Furthermore, His Excellency outlined progress by various government institutions towards Oman’s goal of achieving zero carbon neutrality by 2050. While some institutions actively implement emission reduction projects, others are exploring innovative initiatives to curb carbon footprints.

In the electric energy sector, Oman has announced several key projects, including the development of “Manah 1” and “Manah 2” stations, preparations for “Ibri 3” station, and plans for five new wind energy stations: “Dhofar 2” station, Sadah station, Duqm station, Mahout station, and Jalan Bani Bu Ali station.
