Muscat: Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir orchestrated a captivating software  development competition that united emerging programmers in a  showcase of their coding prowess and inventive thinking. The event held  on the 28th of August 2023, witnessed students from the Indian Schools  in Oman collaborating, competing, and unveiling their ingenious  software projects centred around network security. 

The distinguished guest, Dr. Sulaiman Al Hasani, Deputy Dean of  Administration and Resources at the Global College of Engineering and  Technology, inaugurated the competition. In recognition of the  burgeoning role of technology in today’s global landscape, the  competition aimed to inspire students to explore the realm of software  development and nurture their adeptness in problem-solving.  Participants were granted the autonomy to choose their project domains,  leading to a diverse spectrum of software solutions addressing the  complexities of network security. 

Mr. D.N. Rao, the Principal of the host school, appreciated the  remarkable IT talents showcased by all participants. 

A distinguished panel of judges, comprising Dr. Anjum Zameer Bhat, a  senior faculty member at the Middle East College in the Department of  Computer and Electronics Engineering; Dr. Basant Kumar, Associate  Professor at the Modern College of Business and Science; and Dr.  Deevyankar Agarwal, from the Computer Engineering Department at the  University of Technology & Applied Sciences, meticulously evaluated  projects based on the criteria encompassing originality, creativity,  problem-solving acumen, and presentation. The judging process was an  intricate endeavour due to the exemplary quality of work presented by  the students hailing from 9 Indian Schools including Indian School  Salalah, Indian School Sohar, Indian School Maabela, Indian School  Bousher, Indian School Al Seeb, Indian School Al Ghubra, Indian School  Ibra, Indian School Darsait, and Indian School Wadi Kabir. 

“The path to honing your skills and embracing the world of Computer  Science is paved through such competitions,” remarked the judges,  addressing those passionate about the field. 

At the closing ceremony, certificates of participation were distributed to all the contestants and winners. Indian School Sohar emerged as the  triumphant champion, receiving a certificate, memento, and a cash prize  of 250 OMR, while Indian School Wadi Kabir secured the runner-up  position, obtaining a certificate, memento, and a cash prize of 150 OMR.  The monetary rewards were generously sponsored by the Global College  of Engineering and Technology. 

The event not only celebrated the participants’ endeavours but also  fostered a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie among the  student community. 

Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir remains resolute in its commitment to  nurture the talents of its students and equip them for the challenges of  the digital era. The software development competition served as a  platform for young minds to innovate, collaborate, and exhibit their  technical acumen, paving the way for a future generation of adept  programmers and software developers. 

The event was attended by Mr. Jayaprakash, Vice Principal, Mr.  Jagadeesh S. Patil, Head of the Department of Computer Science,  alongside other department heads of the participating schools, teachers,  and students from the host institution.
